LAS Workshop Series

The Latin American Studies Workshop Series is an annual gathering hosted by the Liu Institute for Global Issues, in which graduate students working on issues related to Latin America share works-in-progress in an informal yet constructive atmosphere.

With generous support from the Liu Institute for Global Issues, the UBC and SFU Latin American Studies programs, the UBC History and Anthropology departments, and the Belkin Art Gallery, the series aims to increase the exposure of graduate student research, provide presenters with useful and informed criticism, and fortify region-based and cross-departmental connections among scholars at UBC and SFU. Planning these workshops is always easier when we can estimate how many will be in attendance, so please let us know if you will be joining us.

This Web site is meant to be a resource for workshop participants and, more generally, a tool for Vancouver-based scholars whose work relates to Latin America. Here you will find information on upcoming workshops, including schedules, locations, and drafts of the papers being presented. We are also building an ever-growing bibliography and maintain a calendar of relevant area events.

To add to our site, and to access draft papers for the workshops, please create an account. Once you have done so, you'll be part of the workshop community, so feel free to post relevant events to our calendar, add to our bibliography or other research aides, or syndicate your blog here.
